Ours is an age when many of us feel out of control, victimized by the velocity and direction of modern life. Too much seems to be happening to us that is not of our own making. We are swept along, buffeted and bruised by the velocity of world events. Choquette gives spiritual direction in bite-size chunks. Married, the mother of two, a full-time writer, spiritual teacher, and practicing intuitive, she has had to learn the art and the skills of time management for modern life. Her books teach what she herself has had to learn: how to "do" a fulfilling life somewhere in the middle of the life you've actually got.

For the past decade, Choquette has been a close friend of mine. Over time I have realized her considerable education, erudition, and sophistication (her tone is a well-polished jewel of cosmopolitan taste). I have come to appreciate that her grounded, humorous, populist approach to spirituality is a carefully chosen path. She teaches through story and principle rather than steeping her work in the intellectualism and borrowed respectability that so many people use to mask and promote their message.

When a friend or student hits troubled water and needs to revamp a badly damaged sense of life safety, I do not send him to the best-selling spiritual gurus of our time, fine writers and teachers though they are. Over and over, for soul hunger, it is to Choquette's work that I send people who genuinely want their own lives to alter and expand. I do this because Choquette is an empowering teacher. She teaches people to trust themselves, not her. She is, to my eye, radically humble: "Be your own guru," she advises, and then adds, "Here's how."

I am a mortal being, full of sin, and basically not good, without worth.	I am a spiritual being, a child of God, a divine miracle, inherently precious.
I can't trust myself. I don't know what is good for me. Others know better.	I can trust myself. My Higher Self always knows best, if I only listen.
1 am not psychic. These unusual experiences are coincidences, luck, "weird"	Every moment of my day, my Higher Self directs me. Everything counts.

I can't justify my feelings. How can I be sure?	I operate on faith! I don't need to justify my intuition. I will be patient until it becomes clear why I am guided.
